Abstract

Riyan Mahyudi Istirham (A 121 15 130). This skripsi entitled “The Effectiveness of Using Mistake Buster Technique in Teaching Simple Past Tense to the Second Year Students of SMP Negeri 12 Palu”. Under the Supervision of Aminah. The objective of this research is to find out whether or not the use of Mistake Buster Technique is effective in teaching simple past tense to the second year students of SMP Negeri 12 Palu.It used a quasi experimental research design which involved two groups; experimentalgroup and control group. 18 students’ of VIII A were as the experimental group and 17 students’ of VIII B were as the control class, selected by using total sampling technique. The instrument of data collection was test consisted of pre-test and post-test.The result of the data shows that the tcounted value (3.36) is higher than the ttablevalue (1.69). It indicates that the hypothesisof this research is accepted. In other words, the use of Mistake Buster Technique is effective in teaching simple past tense to the second year students of SMP Negeri 12 Palu. Keywords: Effectiveness, Mistake Buster Technique, Simple Past Tense Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menemukan apakah penggunaan tehnik Mistake Buster efektif dalam mengajar simple past tense kepada siswa tahun kedua di SMP Negeri 12 Palu. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain penelitian semu yang melibatkan dua kelompok; kelompok eksperimen dan kelompok kontrol. 18 siswa dikelas VIII A sebagai kelompok experimen dan 17 siswa dikelas VIII B sebagai kelompok kontrol, dipilih dengan menggunakan teknik total sampling. Instrumen pengumpulan data adalah tes yang terdiri dari tes-awal dan tes-akhir. Hasil dari data menunjukkan bahwa nilai thitung (3.36) lebih tinggi daripada nilai ttabel (1.69). Ini mengindikasikan bahwa hipotesis penelitian penelitian ini diterima. Dengan kata lain penggunaan tehnik Mistake Buster efektif dalam mengajar simple past tense kepada siswa tahun kedua di SMP Negeri 12 Palu.
