The objective of this research is to investigate the effectiveness of Task-based Instruction in increasing students’ writing skill of the Tenth Grade Students of SMA Negeri 1 Rio Pakava. The design was a quasi-experimental research design which involved experimental and control class. The research samples were XA as the experimental class with 31 students and XB as the control class with 30 students, selected by total sampling technique. In collecting the data, the researcher gave pretest and posttest to both experimental and control classes. The treatment was given only to the experimental class. The data were analyzed statistically in order to find out the significant difference of students achievement on pretest and posttest. The mean score of experimental class on pretest was 39.01 while control one was 39.27. The mean score of experimental class on posttest was 76.92 while control one was 59.17. By using 0.05 level of significance and 59 degree of freedom (df) = Nx + Ny – 2= 31 + 30 – 2 = 59, the researcher found that the value of the t-counted (5.62) was greater than t-table (2.00). It means that the hypothesis was accepted. In other words, the application of Task-based Instruction can increase students’ writing skill of the Tenth Grade Students of SMA Negeri 1 Rio Pakava.
