Abstract

ABSTRACT Ivoni Riska A. Kadir (A 121 15 058). Improving Reading Comprehension through Mind Mapping Technique of Eight Grade Students at SMP Negeri 17 Palu. A Skripsi. English Education Study Program, Language and Art Education Department, Teacher Training and Education Faculty, Tadulako University. It is under Supervision of Ferry Rita. The objective of this research is to find out whether or not mind mapping technique improves the students’ reading comprehension of eight grade students at SMP Negeri 17 Palu. The researcher applied quasi-experimental research design. The population of this research was eight grade students of SMP Negeri 17 Palu. In selecting the research sampling, the researcher used purposive sampling technique. The samples were VIIID as the experimental class and VIIIE as the control class. Experimental class was given the treatment while control class was not. The researcher administrated pretest and posttest in collecting the data. The result showed the students’ mean score of the experimental group (82.98) on the posttest was greater than the students’ mean score of the control group (60.12) on the posttest. Similarly, the t-counted of 6.56 was higher than the ttable of 1.675 causing the hypothesis accepted. The researcher concludes that using mind mapping technique improves reading comprehension of eight grade students of SMP Negeri 17 Palu.
