Abstract

This study aims to examine the influence of various leadership styles—namely autocratic, militaristic, paternalistic, and democratic—on employee performance at the sub-district government level. Using a quantitative approach and survey method, this study involved 46 respondents who were employees from three sub-districts in Palu City. Data were collected through a closed-ended questionnaire with a Likert scale, and analyzed using multiple linear regression with the help of SPSS software. The results of the study indicate that the four leadership styles have a significant influence, both simultaneously and individually, on employee performance. This indicates that the application of the right leadership style can have a positive impact on productivity and work effectiveness. The combination of leadership approaches that include authority from the autocratic style, discipline from the militaristic style, concern from the paternalistic style, and active participation from the democratic style, is able to create a balance between structure and flexibility in the work environment. Based on the analysis, the militaristic leadership style (X2) was found to be the most dominant style in influencing employee performance. These findings are expected to serve as a strategic reference for leaders in the public sector in determining an effective leadership approach.
