Reading comprehension is one of the essential skills in learning English. However, many students still experience difficulties in understanding texts due to limited vocabulary and lack of effective teaching strategies. Therefore, this research aims to find out whether or not the use of the Global Method can improve students’ reading comprehension of the eighth-grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Sigi. The research used a quasi-experimental research design involving an experimental class and a control class. The population of this research was the eighth-grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Sigi, consisting of six classes with 166 students. The sample was selected using purposive sampling technique, where class VIII B was chosen as the experimental class and class VIII D as the control class, with 23 students in each class. The instruments used in this research were pre-test and post- test. The experimental class was taught using the Global Method, while the control class was taught using conventional teaching method. The data were analyzed using SPSS 29.0.2.0. The results showed that the mean score of the experimental class increased from 66.91 in the pre-test to 87.91 in the post-test. Furthermore, the result of the independent sample t-test showed that the significance value (p-value) was lower than 0.05 (p < 0.001). This indicates that there is a significant difference between experimental and control classes. Therefore, the alternative hypothesis is accepted. It can be concluded that the use of the Global Method is effective in improving students’ reading comprehension of the eighth-grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Sigi.
