Abstract

Effectiveness of Jigsaw Technique in Improving Students'
Reading Comprehension at SMPN 15 Palu”. Thesis. English Education Study
Program, Language and Art Education Department, Teacher Training and
Education Faculty, Tadulako University, Supervisor (1) Mukrim (2) Mashuri.
This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of the Jigsaw technique in
improving students’ reading comprehension of descriptive texts at SMP Negeri 15
Palu. This research employed a quasi-experimental design involving an
experimental group and a control group selected through cluster random sampling.
The participants were seventh-grade students. The instrument used was a reading
test consisting of multiple-choice and essay questions administered through pre-test
and post-test. The results showed that the Jigsaw technique had a significant
positive effect on students’ reading comprehension, as indicated by the t-counted
value (4.36) which was higher than the t-table value (0.117). It can be concluded
that the Jigsaw technique is effective in improving students’ reading
comprehension.
