ABSTRAK
Penelitian ini mengkaji penerapan konsep Passive Low Energy Architecture
pada perancangan gedung perkuliahan Jurusan Arsitektur Universitas Tadulako
sebagai solusi untuk meningkatkan kenyamanan termal dan efisiensi energi. Latar
belakang penelitian ini adalah adanya masalah kondisi termal yang panas dan
kurangnya pencahayaan alami pada ruang kuliah eksisting, yang memicu
ketergantungan tinggi pada penggunaan AC dan lampu listrik.
Metode yang digunakan adalah mixed method, yang menggabungkan metode
perancangan arsitektur dengan pendekatan kuantitatif untuk pengumpulan dan
pengolahan data. Analisis dilakukan terhadap berbagai aspek teknis, meliputi orientasi
massa bangunan, window to wall ratio (WWR), ventilasi silang (cross ventilation),
sistem peneduhan (shading), pemilihan material selubung bangunan, serta sistem
utilitas yang mendukung efisiensi.
Hasil perancangan menunjukkan bahwa implementasi strategi desain pasif,
seperti memanjangkan bangunan ke arah timur-barat dan mengoptimalkan bukaan
ventilasi di area tenggara, mampu menurunkan beban pendinginan secara signifikan.
Selain itu, pemanfaatan cahaya alami yang maksimal melalui pengaturan WWR yang
tepat
dapat
mengurangi penggunaan energi untuk pencahayaan buatan.
Kesimpulannya, penerapan konsep ini berhasil menciptakan ruang belajar yang
nyaman secara termal dan mandiri dari sistem mekanikal, sekaligus mendukung upaya
konservasi energi di lingkungan kampus.

ABSTARCT
This research examines the application of Passive Low Energy Architecture
concepts in the design of the Architecture Department lecture building at Tadulako
University as a solution to enhance thermal comfort and energy efficiency. The study
is motivated by issues regarding hot thermal conditions and the lack of natural lighting
in existing classrooms, which trigger a high dependency on air conditioning and
electric lighting.
The method used is a mixed-method approach, combining architectural design
methods with quantitative approaches for data collection and processing. The analysis
covers various technical aspects, including building mass orientation, window-to-wall
ratio (WWR), cross ventilation, shading systems, building envelope material selection,
and utility systems that support efficiency.
The design results demonstrate that the implementation of passive design
strategies—such as extending the building along the east-west axis and optimizing
ventilation openings in the southeast area—can significantly reduce the cooling load.
Furthermore, maximizing natural lighting through appropriate WWR settings reduces
energy consumption for artificial lighting. In conclusion, the application of this concept
successfully creates a thermally comfortable learning space that is independent of
mechanical systems, while supporting energy conservation efforts within the campus
environment.
