This study investigates the use of the Circle Game as a teaching strategy to
improve vocabulary mastery of the eighth-grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Sindue
Tobata. The research specifically focuses on three aspects of vocabulary: form
(spelling), meaning (matching), and use (making sentences). By employing a
quasi-experimental design, the study involved pre-test and post-test assessments
administered to both experimental and control groups. The experimental group
received treatment using Circle Game, while the control group followed
traditional teaching methods. The findings revealed a significant improvement in
the experimental group’s vocabulary mastery, with the mean score rising from
55.36 to 86.8. In contrast, the control group showed a more modest increase from
60.4 to 68.4. These results demonstrated that Circle Game is effective in
enhancing vocabulary mastery through interactive and contextual learning. The
game not only improved students’ spelling accuracy and understanding of word
meaning, but also their ability to making sentences meaningfully. Therefore, this
study concludes that Circle Game is an effective and enjoyable strategy for
improving students' vocabulary and it can be incorporated in English language
teaching.
