Kesulitan Siswa Dalam Mempelajari Kosakata Bahasa Inggris Dan Solusi Strategi Pembelajaran Pada Siswa Kelas VIII SMP Negeri 14 Sigi

Vocabulary plays an important role in developing students’ English language skills. However, junior high school students often experience difficulties in learning and using English vocabulary. This study aimed to identify the difficulties faced by Grade VIII students in learning English vocabulary and to propose solutions to overcome those difficulties at SMP Negeri 14 Sigi. This study employed a descriptive qualitative design involving 23 Grade VIII students and one English teacher. Data were collected through open-ended questionnaires and semi-structured interviews with five selected students and one English teacher. The data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model, involving data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings showed that students experienced difficulties in remembering vocabulary, understanding word meanings in context, pronouncing words correctly, using vocabulary in sentences, and maintaining confidence when using English. Students used several strategies, including writing, translation, memorization, repetition, and digital learning media. Based on the findings, the proposed solutions include contextual vocabulary practice, repeated exposure and reinforcement, pronunciation practice, sentence-building activities, interactive learning activities, and appropriate use of digital media. These solutions are expected to support students’ vocabulary learning and confidence in using English.
