Abstract

This study aims to examine the effectiveness of narrative group counseling in
improving the resilience of students experiencing fatherlessness. This research
employed a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental method using a
Non-Equivalent Control Group Design involving an experimental group and a
control group. The research subjects were students of SMP Negeri 2 Palu
identified as experiencing fatherlessness. Data were collected using a resilience
questionnaire administered before and after the intervention. The experimental
group received narrative-based group counseling services, while the control
group received conventional group counseling services without specific
techniques. Data analysis was performed using the nonparametric Mann–
Whitney U test assisted by SPSS. The findings indicated that both groups
experienced an increase in resilience; however, the experimental group showed
a higher and more consistent improvement. The Mann–Whitney test results
obtained a significance value of 0.014 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant
difference between the experimental and control groups. Therefore, narrative
group counseling is proven effective in enhancing the resilience of fatherless
students and can be considered an alternative guidance and counseling
intervention in schools to support students’ psychological development
