Penggunaan Film Animasi Berbahasa Inggris Untuk Meningkatkan Penguasaan Kosakata Siswa Di SMP Negeri 1 Bungku Barat

Vocabulary mastery is an essential component of English language learning because it supports students in understanding and using the language effectively. However, many junior high school students continue to experience difficulties in acquiring and applying English vocabulary in meaningful contexts. This study investigated the effectiveness of English animation movies in improving the vocabulary mastery of eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 1 Bungku Barat. A quantitative approach employing a one-group pre-test and post-test design was applied. The participants were 20 eighth-grade students selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using a vocabulary test consisting of 15 multiplechoice items and 5 matching tasks administered before and after the treatment. The findings indicated a noticeable improvement in students’ vocabulary achievement, with the mean score increasing from 50.50 in the pre-test to 63.00 in the post-test. The paired-samples t-test further revealed a statistically significant difference between the two tests (t = ?4.258, p = 0.000 < 0.05), leading to the rejection of the null hypothesis and acceptance of the alternative hypothesis. These findings suggest that English animation movies provide meaningful contextual exposure that facilitates vocabulary learning while creating a more engaging and interactive classroom environment. Therefore, English animation movies can be considered an effective instructional medium for enhancing students’ vocabulary mastery in EFL classrooms.
