DAMPAK PENGGUNAAN TIKTOK TERHADAP KETERAMPILAN BERBICARA MAHASISWA: STUDI KASUS DI KELAS SPEAKING PROGRAM STUDI PENDIDIDKAN BAHASA INGGRIS UNIVERSITAS TADULAKO

ABSTRACT
Gina Adriani P. Lanang (A12223011). This research is entitled The Impact of
Using TikTok on Students' Speaking Skills: A Case Study at the Speaking
Class of English Education Study Program, Tadulako University. Postgraduate
English Education Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education,
Tadulako University, under the supervision of Jamiluddin and Aminah.
This research examines the impact of TikTok on students' speaking skills, focusing
on perceptions within the Speaking Class of the English Education Study Program
at Tadulako University. Employing a mixed-methods approach, the study integrates
quantitative data from questionnaires and qualitative insights from semi-structured
interviews with 19 participants. Findings reveal that a significant majority of
students view TikTok as an accessible and effective tool for enhancing their
speaking abilities, with features like duet and stitch facilitating direct practice and
engagement. Students reported improvements in vocabulary acquisition and an
increased understanding of various English accents. However, challenges such as
distractions from irrelevant content and difficulties comprehending diverse accents
were also noted. This research underscores the need for educators to guide students
in leveraging TikTok effectively, maximizing its benefits while minimizing
potential distractions. Ultimately, the study contributes valuable insights into the
role of social media in language education and its implications for modern learning
environments.
