The purpose of this research was to find out the writing problems faced by the ninth grade students of SMP Negeri 5 Sigi in writing procedure text. This research employed test and interview as the instruments in collecting the data. The subjects of this research were 24 students of IX C at SMP Negeri 5 Sigi in the academic year 2022/2023. The test was given to 24 students. The researcher interviewed five students who got good scores and who got bad scores. Although the students test in writing procedure was good, the mean score shows that students get 68.29 with good category. From the result of test, the difficulty encountered by the ninth grade students of SMP Negeri 5 Sigi is vocabulary. The results of the interview showed that there are two factors causing students’ difficulties in writing procedure text. The internal factors are less ability in writing procedure text and lack of motivation in learning English. The external factor is teaching technique by teacher which make students confused or hard to understand in their learning process.
