Abstract

ABSTRACT

Absract: This research aims to study the implementation of Literature Circle Strategy in teaching reading and the impact of the strategy in improving students’ reading skills. It employed a library research method where the researcher gathered articles from journal and academic papers such as skripsi and thesis. The data were then analyzed by using a content analysis method. The data were collected from the studies of Nofitarina (2016), Julianti, Fakhrudin and Ilyas (2019), Castra (2021) and Irawati (2016). The results showed that the use of the Literature Circle Strategy is quite effective in teaching reading to Junior High School students. First, it was because the strategy elevated the students’ enthusiasm. It facilitated students to think and share their ideas with their friends. Second, it added up students’ vocabularies and improved their spelling skills. Third, the Literature Circle Strategy made the students practice analytical thinking which helped them to become critical thinkers. Last, as the strategy freed students to choose their reading, the students were more motivated and engaged to read. Through Literature Circle Strategy, students can easily state their ideas and learn new words. It can be used to teach elementary to higher-level students.
