ABSTRACT
Winda Lestari (A 121 17 267). This Skripsi is entitled “A Study on the
Implementation of Picture Series in Teaching Speaking Skillâ€. English
Education Study Program, Language and Art Education Department, Teacher
Training and Education Faculty, Tadulako University, under the supervision of
Konder Manurung, andAfrilliaAnggreni.
The objectives of this research were to describe how the implementation of
Picture Series in teaching speaking and how is the students' speaking skills after
the implementation of Picture Series. The study used a qualitative design that
implemented the Library research method. Data was collected from scientific
writings on the implementation of Picture Series in teaching Speaking between
2015 and 2018. Data were analyzed using content analysis based on Marilyn
(2006).Scientific writing was found from library and the internet consisting three
skripsi from Bambang Irawan (2015), Yulia (2017), Sahmila M Al Idrus (2018),
two articles from Purwatiningsih (2015) and Sri Wahyuni (2018). The results of
the data analysis show that the implementation of Picture Series in five different
studies was carried out in various ways. The results revealed that all researchers
adapted procedures by Andrew Wright. (1988). All studies show that students'
speaking ability were improved after implementing Picture Series in their
research. Picture Series had some impact on students. Those are, the students are
more involved and motivated when using Picture series, students are active in
speaking activities in class, students are enthusiastic in learning to speak, students
find it easy to talk about something and they were happy to share ideas by seeing
Picture Series. It was concluded that the use of Picture Series in teaching speaking
is effective. Therefore, the use of Picture Series can facilitate speaking skill of the
students in different levels.
