This research is aimed at finding out the percentage of students’ errors in using
personal pronouns and the types of personal pronouns error that is often made by
the students of SMP Negeri 1 Ratolindo. The researcher used content analysis as
the method. The objects of the research were 25 students from VIIA. Data were
obtained through test and interview. The test was the main focus of the research to
analyze the errors made by the students while the interview was used to support
the data from the students’ test result. The data were collected by giving sentence
completion test consisting of 24 numbers. The findings show that the total
percentage of students’ errors in using personal pronouns is 60.67% from the total
point 600 where the total error was 364 and the correct answer was 236. The
students made the most errors in using possessive pronoun with the total error was
98 errors and the percentage was 65.33% from 25 students. The students got
difficulty in using personal pronouns because they are not used to using personal
pronouns due to the influence of their mother tongue. In addition, they who were
not interested of the material and the way teacher teaching the material also the
factor of their lack understanding in using personal pronouns. The researcher
concluds that the causes of students’ errors in using personal pronouns are
interlingual errors and intralingual errors.
