Analisis Kesalahan Dalam Menulis Teks Deskriptif Yang Dibuat Oleh Siswa SMA Negeri 1 Tolitoli Utara

This research aims to discover the types of errors and the sources of errors in writing descriptive text made by students of SMA Negeri 1 Tolitoli Utara. The subjects of this research were students of class X MIA 2, consisting of 20 students. The researcher used a descriptive qualitative design. The data were collected through document and interview. In collecting the data, the researcher took the students' worksheets from the English teacher. After analyzing the students' written texts, the errors found were classified based on the Surface Strategy Taxonomy error types proposed by Dulay, Burt, and Krashen (1982). The researcher conducted interview as supporting data to find out the sources of student errors. The result of the research showed that the students made 103 errors in writing descriptive text. There were 25 omission errors, 27 addition errors, 40 misformation errors, and 11 misordering errors. In addition, from the interview, it was found that students had difficulties in writing descriptive text because they do not understand the English sentence patterns, and also lacks of vocabulary. Based on data result, the researcher concluded that the source of students' errors is intralingual transfer. It means, students made errors because they did not understand the language rules that apply. Furthermore, from the data found in this research, it is suggested that the teacher should pay more attention to the teaching and learning process and also emphasize the material that is difficult for students.
