Written by The Tenth Grade Students at SMA Negeri 1 Palu”. Skripsi. Faculty of
Teacher Training and Education, Department of Language and Art Education,
English Education Study Program, under the supervision of. Sriati Usman and the

The research investigates the most common grammatical errors found in students'
descriptive writing at SMA Negeri 1 Palu. The research design is qualitative
descriptive. The study involves 36 eleventh-grade science students from Kota Palu
who are enrolled in science class 4. The research instrument used was the work
produced by a group of students on the topic of descriptive text. Dulay's Surface
Strategy Taxonomy was used to analyze the data, which identified errors such as
omission, addition, misformation, and misordering. The research findings
revealed that the most common error made by students was misinformation in
relation to verb agreement and the simple present tense. The total error rate is
42%, with moderate errors found in the misinformation section. The total error

account for 30% of errors, additions for 19%, and misordering for 9%, all
classified as low errors. The main cause of misformation in their work is the
frequent misuse of the suffix -s for plurals. To avoid errors, it is essential to use
clear and precise language, including correct pluralisation. The section on
omissions lacked the subject, verb, or 'to be'. The disorganized sentences led to
misordering. Inappropriate word additions were also present within sentences. The
