ABSTRACT
Background: Cardiorespiratory fitness is the ability of the heart, blood vessels, lungs, bones or muscles systems of the human body using the Cooper test method. In this case the Cooper test aims at determining the physical fitness of humans by running exercises with a distance of 2.4 km. One of the anthropometric indices that can identify metabolic status is the waist hip ratio. Waist hip ratio gives an idea of the proportion of fat in the waist and hip area.
Objective: To determine the correlation between the level of cardiorespiratory fitness and the waist hip ratio using the Cooper test method to the medical faculty students of Tadulako University.
Methods: This research uses an observational analytical research method with a cross sectional approach. In this case, measurements of waist hip ratio and cooper test will be carried out on research subjects
Results: The research results show that the peripheral obesity with moderate fitness is 1.72 percent, poor fitness is 4.31 percent, very poor fitness is 64.65 percent. Then, for central obesity with moderate fitness is 0.86 percent, poor fitness is 2.58 percent, very poor fitness is 23.27 percent. Furthermore, for the sample in the normal whr category with very poor fitness is 2.58 percent. It shows that there is no significant correlation between cardiorespiratory fitness and waist hip ratio as showed by the results of statistical tests, namely the value of p = 0.398 (p>0.05).
Conclusion: There is no correlation between the level of cardiorespiratory fitness and the waist hip ratio with the Cooper test method in students of the Faculty of Medical, Tadulako University.
