Abstract
Forests have a strategic role and function for the sustainable development and life of both humans and the ecosystem as a whole. The existence of functions and forest areas must be established so that they have a basis and legal certainty in their management. The purpose of this study was to determine the extent of changes in the function of the Protected Forest area and the function of the Limited Production Forest area, as a result of the implementation of the boundary function of the forest area in the sub-district of Kasimbar, Parigi Moutong Regency using a Geographic Information System (GIS). This study uses an overlay method between the Map of Central Sulawesi Province Forest Area in 2103, Map of the Development of Inauguration of Forest Areas in Central Sulawesi Province in 2017, Map of Boundary and Administrative Data of Central Sulawesi Province. The results of the determination of forest area boundary functions in the sub-district of Kasimbar resulted in changes in the area of protected forest area with an initial area of 1,022.34 ha to 1,159.38 ha, while the area of Limited Production Forest with an initial area of 6,493.10 ha to 6,390.68 ha. This is due to the policy taken by the boundary management team because the field conditions do not allow the boundary implementation to follow the lines of the Protected Forest and Limited Production Forest route based on the map of forest area functions due to the very steep field .
