This study was investigated about kinds of errors committed by the third semester
students of English Education study program of Tadulako University 2020 in writing
analytical exposition text. It aims to determine the causes of the errors. This research
used a descriptive qualitative research design. Students’ composition as the instrument
in collecting the data. This study employed linguistic category taxonomy
(orthographic, morpho-syntactic, and lexicon-semantic) as it fits the scope of this
research. The results show that the most frequent errors found were morpho-syntactic
errors with a total number 247 (53.66%). Then, there were 72 (17.1%) of errors in
lexicon-semantic, there were 70 errors (16.63%) of errors in capitalization, and there
were 16 (3.80%) of errors in orthographic and punctuation. Dealing with the causes of
errors, the most errors found because of intralingual error. Other errors are caused by
communication strategies and the last is by interlingual errors. The implication of this
findings is that the teachers need to ask the students to do many exercises to improve
their writing skills especially in writing analytical exposition text.
