ANALYSIS OF SENTENCE TYPES WRITTEN BY THE STUDENTS OF ENGLISH EDUCATION STUDY PROGRAM TADULAKO UNIVERSITY

Training and Education Faculty, Tadulako University, Under the Supervision of
Jamiluddin and Siska Bochari.
The objectives of this research were to find out what the most dominant
sentence type in students’ writing, what form of sentence that students used in
dominant sentence type, and analyze the factors which influence students in
writing. The research design was quantitative descriptive with the population
were the students of 7th semester in English education study program, Tadulako
University who have passed the course Seminar in ELT. The sample of this
research was 105 students of the 7th semester and used simple random sampling
technique and calculated by using Slovin formula. The instrument to collect the
data were document analysis and questionnaire. The results of the data analysis
show that: (1) the most dominant sentence type that students used in their
background was simple sentence with the total frequency is 453 sentences, (2) the
form of dominant type that students use were verbal sentence and nominal
sentence as the higher frequency which is 271 sentences, (3) there are three
factors that influence students in writing especially about sentence types namely
internal factors and external factor.
