BANTUAN PEMBELAJARAN BERBASIS AI UNTUK TUNARUNGU: MENCERNA DATA VISUAL DAN PENDENGARAN MENJADI BAHASA ISYARAT

Inclusive Education is a tangible manifestation of human rights, particularly
for individuals with disabilities to achieve equal education. This has been affirmed
through the KEMENDIKBUDRISTEK Regulation No. 48 of 2023, which
mandates formal schools to accommodate the needs of students with disabilities.
However, data collected from online sources indicate that only 4 universities in
Indonesia demonstrate readiness in this regard. This issue is increasingly urgent
given that the majority of universities in Indonesia are not yet prepared to provide
optimal services for students with disabilities according to their needs. Limited
resources and supporting infrastructure, a lack of skills among lecturers in teaching
students with special needs, and the dependency of students on support staff present
challenges in implementing inclusive education in higher education institutions in
Indonesia. This results in disparities in educational accessibility, hampers the
development of education in Indonesia, and may even impede the nation's progress
toward achieving high-quality and inclusive education standards. To address these
challenges, our team proposes a technological innovation in the form of an AI-based
software system, titled “AI-Based Learning Assist For The Deaf,” which leverages
cutting-edge technology to enhance educational accessibility for deaf students by
translating visual and auditory information into sign language. Thus, this solution
is expected to represent a significant advancement and ensure equality in higher
education in Indonesia.
