ABSTRACT

Background: Hypertension or high blood pressure is an increase in systolic blood pressure of more than 140 mmHg and diastolic blood pressure of more than 90 mmHg at two measurements with an interval of five minutes in a state of sufficient rest/calmness. Hypertension is often referred to as the silent killer because it can cause sudden death without prior complaints.
Objective: To identify the effectiveness of ginger and lemongrass decoction on lowering blood pressure in hypertensive patients in RT.01 Kawatuna.
Methods: The design of this study uses a Pre-Experimental Design in the form of a one group pre test-post test design. Namely, before (pre-test) is given treatment and after (post test) is given treatment. using the sampling technique of purposive sampling technique with the formula slovin 10% as many as 20 respondents.
Results: Before being given ginger and lemongrass water decoction, all respondents had abnormal blood pressure (more than 110/79) with a frequency of 10 (100%) and after being given ginger and lemongrass decoction, namely, 2 respondents had blood pressure in the moderate category (20%) and 4 respondents had good blood pressure (40%)
Conclusion: There is an influence before and after the administration of ginger and lemongrass water decoction with the results obtained with a P-Value value of 0.001 < 0.005 which shows that H0 is rejected and H1 is accepted which given before (pre test) and after (post test) ginger and lemongrass water decoction is given.
