EKSPLORASI STRATEGI GURU DALAM MENGAJARKAN KOSA KATA BAHASA INGGRIS KELAS TUJUH DI SMP NEGERI 2 PALU

The objective of this research is to explore strategies in teaching English
vocabulary of seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Palu. The researcher used
qualitative descriptive design. The participants of the research were thirty-five
students and two English teachers of 7th grade of SMP Negeri 2 Palu. The data
were collected by using interview and observation. There were two English
teachers as informants. The data from the findings were analyzed and interpreted
by the researcher before summing up the results. The result of this research shows
that there are some strategies that the teachers use in teaching vocabulary at SMP
Negeri 2 Palu. The strategies are: determination strategy in term of checking
synonym and dictionary use, social strategy in term of group discussion, memory
strategy in term of memorizing, and cognitive strategy in form of words
repetition, guessing words by using pictures/ real object and using game.
