This study aims to determine the factors of low student interest in participating in guidance and counseling services at SMPN West Palu Sub-District and to find out the efforts of guidance and counseling teachers in increasing student interest in participating in guidance and counseling services. This research uses descriptive qualitative method. The subjects in this study were 6 VIII grade students and 2 guidance and counseling teachers. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling. Data collection techniques used interviews as the main technique, observation and documentation as supporting techniques. The results found that the factors of low student interest were caused by internal factors including students' perceptions of guidance and counseling services and external factors including the personality of guidance and counseling teachers, peers, family environment and school facilities. Internal factors are the factors that most influence low student interest related to students' perceptions of the effectiveness of guidance and counseling services in solving problems and concerns related to the confidentiality of student problems. Guidance and counseling teachers make efforts to increase students' interest in participating in guidance and counseling services such as socializing the importance of guidance and counseling, introducing available services, proposing the provision of guidance and counseling hours in class, and creating a comfortable environment for students to communicate.
