Diabetes mellitus is one of the non-communicable diseases that is becoming a concern at this time because of its increasing prevalence. The prevalence of diabetes mellitus at Ako General Hospital, Pasangkayu District in 2017 was 1.22 percent, in 2018 was 1.37 percent, in 2019 was 1.97 percent, in 2020 was 1.80 percent and in 2021 it rose to 2.09 percent. This research aims at finding out factors associated with adherence to treat type 2 diabetes mellitus patients at the Ako General Hospital, Pasangkayu District. This is a cross sectional research. The research population was 525 people, taken from Issac and Michael formula. The 178 out of 525 people were taken as research samples through simple random sampling technique. The data were analyzed using chi-square with the value of ?=5%. The results show that there is a significant correlation between knowledge (p-value=0,000), attitude (p-value=0,000), self motivation (p-value=0,000), family support (p-value=0,000) and health worker support (p-value=0,019) with the adherence to treat type 2 diabetes mellitus. It is expected to the type 2 diabetes mellitus patients to be able to manage the disease with 4 main pillars of controlling diabetes mellitus, namely nutritional therapy, pharmacological therapy, physical activity and education to comply with medication.
