FAKTOR-FAKTOR PENYEBAB KESULITAN BERBICARA YANG DIHADAPI SISWA KELAS XI SMK NEGERI 6 PALU

The objective of this research is to find out factors causing speaking difficulty faced by the eleventh grade students of SMK Negeri 6 Palu. Qualitative descriptive research was used by the researcher. The population of this research was the eleventh grade students of SMK Negeri 6 Palu. The sample of this research was 48 students of the eleventh grade class hotel accommodation chosen by applying purposive sampling technique. In collecting the data, the researcher used instruments questionnaire and group discussion. The data obtained from the questionnaire and group discussion were analyzed statistically and descriptively. The researcher found that the factors causing students difficulty in speaking are internal factors and external factors. The internal factors are students’ interest, students’ motivation and lack of confidence. The external factors are teachers’ strategy, learning facilities and the environment. The implication of this research are the teacher should provide maximum opportunity in speaking English by providing the large environment for the students to speak, providing the authentic materials and making group work or pair work in the classroom.
