Factors Related to Early Marriage of Adolescent at the Religious Affairs Office of South Palu
Early marriage can lead to increased divorce cases due to lack of awareness to be responsible in married life. According to statistical data of WHO in 2014, it shows that around 16 million births are experienced by mothers aged 15-19 years or 11% of all births in the worldwide, the majority (95%) occur in developing countries. The rate of early marriage in Indonesia is the second highest after Cambodia. This study aims to determine factors related to early marriage of the adolescent at the Religious Affairs Office of South Palu. This was quantitative research using cross sectional design. The population of this study was the adolescents aged 15-19 years with a total numbers 4.077 people and the total sample is 191 adolescents using the Simple Random Sampling method. Data collection was carried out through a questionnaire. Data were analyzed towards univariate and bivariate analysis at 95% level of confidence (?=0.05). The results of the chi-square test reveal that knowledge (p-value=0,026), peers (p-value=0,000) are related to the early marriage, while parental support (p-value=.116) is not associated with the early marriage. It is recommended that health workers should provide information dissemination activities related to the early marriage, such as share the information regarding the impact of the early marriage which poses a bad risk to adolescent health.
