Abstract

ABSTRACT
Ni Komang Purmilawati (A12117055). This Skripsi is entitled “Correlation
between Reading Habit and Writing Skill of Grade Eleven Students of SMAN 5
Palu”. English Education Study Program, Language and Art Education
Department, Teacher Training and Education Faculty, Tadulako University,
under the supervision of Aminah.
This research aims to find out correlation between reading habit and writing skill
of grade eleven students of SMAN 5 Palu. The sample was 30 students who was
taken by using a cluster random sampling technique. The data were collected by
using questionnaire and writing test. In analyzing the data, the researcher used
Pearson Product Moment formula to find out the coefficient correlation between
these two variables. The result shows that the correlation coefficient between
reading habit and writing skill is 0.421with the level significant of t-table 5% =
1.697. It means that there is a positive correlation between reading habit and
writing skill of grade eleven students of SMAN 5 Palu. However, the correlation
is categorized as moderate level which means that the influence of reading habits
does not significantly affect the writing skill of grade eleven students of SMAN 5
Palu.
