Abstract

THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN STRESS LEVEL AND BLOOD PRESSURE AMONG PREGNANT WOMEN IN II AND III TRIMESTER AT PUSKESMAS PANTOLOAN IN 2023

ABSTRACT
Background: Hypertension in pregnancy is one of the biggest causes in maternal death in Indonesia, this complication has a significant impact on the maternal and infant mortality. An increase in blood pressure which occurs continuously and lasts a long period could cause complex hypertension. One factor of the increasing blood pressure is the psychological stress which this often cause anxiety in pregnant women that trigger nervousness before and during labour. Therefore, it is necessary to check the blood pressure early before and during pregnancy to reduce complications of hypertension in pregnancy.
Objective: This research aims to determine the relationship between stress levels and blood pressure in second and third trimester pregnant women in Pantoloan Community Health Centre area in 2023.
Method: This research is an analytical observational study with a cross-sectional quantitative approach. The sample was determined based on the researcher's inclusion criteria and used the Slovin formula for the gained sample that involved 76 pregnant women. The data obtained was based on the results of distributing questionnaires and measuring blood pressure.
Results: Based on the research results, it is found that 55 pregnant women (72.4%) had normal category stress levels, 6 pregnant women (7.9%) had mild category stress levels, 11 pregnant women (14.5%) had a moderate stress level, and 4 pregnant women (5.3%) had a severe stress level. Meanwhile, there were only 2 pregnant women (2.6%) who had blood pressure that categorised as hypertension. The results of statistical tests showed that there was no relationship found between stress levels and blood pressure in the second and third trimester among pregnant women in Pantoloan Community Health Centre area in 2023 (p = 0.853)
Conclusion: There is no significant relationship between stress levels and blood pressure in the second and the third trimester among pregnant women in Pantoloan Community Health Centre area in 2023.
