Abstract

Nutrition in pregnant women is an important factor to consider because it is related to the health of the mother and the fetus. One of the nutritional problems experienced by pregnant women is chronic energy deficiency (CED), a condition in which pregnant women experience malnutrition for a long time resulting in health problems. The effects of this problem are at risk of inhibiting fetal growth, LBW, prematurity and long-term effects can interfere with the growth and development of the baby. Central Sulawesi is one of the provinces that has a high CED rate in Indonesia. The Talise Public Health Center data show that 6,26% of pregnant women experience CED. This study aims to analyze the relationship between nutritional knowledge, history of infectious diseases and food availability with CED in pregnant women in the working area of Talise Public Health Center Palu City. This study is a quantitative study using a cross-sectional approach. The population in this study were 596. Using the Slovin formula, a sample of 86 pregnant women in Talise Public Health Center Palu City working area were obtained using a simple random sampling technique. Data were analyzed using the chi-square statistical test. The results show 50 pregnant women have CED (58,1%) and 36 pregnant women have normal nutritional status (41,9%). Based on the chi-square test result, variables that have a significant relationship with CED are nutritional knowledge (p = 0,032) and food availability (p = 0,013). At the same time, there is no relationship between the history of infectious diseases with CED in pregnant women (p = 0,645). Pregnant women are expected to pay attention to their food intake and check their health at the nearest Public Health Center
