Abstract

SARAH PEBRIYANTI TULE. The Relationship among Mother's Socio-Economic, Family Support, and Cadre Activeness with Exclusive Breastfeeding for Toddlers in the Work Area of ?? Kawatuna Health Center, Mantikulore District (Supervised by Ummu Aiman).
Badan kesehatan WHO (World Health Organitation) 2005 stated that the toddler mortality rate in the world is 42%, while in Indonesia the toddler mortality rate is 34/1000 of live births, the toddler mortality rate is 44/1000 lof ive births. The most deaths in toddler and babies are caused by malnutrition, which is 58%. Breastfeeding is not optimal, contributing to 45% of deaths from neonatal infectious diseases, 30% of deaths from diarrhea, and 18% of deaths from acute respiratory disorders in toddlers. The deaths of 30,000 children in Indonesia each year can be prevented by exclusive breastfeeding which can reduce toddler mortality by up to 13%. The purpose of this study is to determine the Mother's Socio-Economic Relationship, Family Support, and Cadre Activeness with Exclusive Breastfeeding for Toddlers in the Working Area of Kawatuna Health Center, Mantikulore District. The sample in this study were all mothers who had 12-23 months old babies, namely 91 people. The method used was quantitative using a cross sectional design. Statistical analysis applied using the Chi Square test. The results show that there is no relationship between mother's knowledge and exclusive breastfeeding because mothers who had good knowledge and did not breastfeed their babies until the age of 6 months had more confidence and trust in the culture that had been adhered to by the surrounding community. So that mother's knowledge about exclusive breastfeeding no longer affects breastfeeding. There is no relationship between mother's work and exclusive breastfeeding because mothers who do not work have a greater chance of exclusive breastfeeding. There is no relationship between family support and exclusive breastfeeding because the support is provided by the husband, but the mother's own will is influenced by several factors, including the mother's physical condition which is not supportive and the lack of milk production. There is no relationship between the activeness of cadres and exclusive breastfeeding because the assistance provided by cadres is very beneficial for mothers of toddlers. Cadres use notebook media when carrying out actions and give notes to mothers at the end of the visit. Suggestions proposed is that to be able to encourage and motivate other mothers to be willing to provide exclusive breastfeeding to their babies so that babies can grow and develop optimally.
