IMPROVING PRONUNCIATION OF THE SECOND GRADE STUDENTS OF SMP NEGERI 1 LORE UTARA THROUGH CARTOON MOVIE

The aim of this research is to prove whether using Cartoon Movie is effective to improve pronunciation of second grade students at SMP Negeri 1 Lore Utara or not, specifically in monophtongs. This research used quasi experimental research design that has two criteria of groups as the sample of the research which is class B as the experimental group and class D as the control group. The research population was the second grade students at SMP Negeri 1 Lore Utara which consisted of 178 students. The researcher used purposive sampling and adopted two groups pre-test and post-test design.The data gathered was analyzed statistically. The result shows there is a significant difference between the students’ score on pre-test and post-test in experimental group (from 36,91 to 63,29) compared to students’ mean score in control group (from 36,07 to 54,41). The t-counted (3,75) is higher than t-table (1,671), it means that the hypothesis is accepted. In other words the use of Cartoon movie is effective to improve pronunciation of the second grade students at SMP Negeri 1 Lore Utara.
