The Skripsi entitles “Improving Speaking Skill of the Eight Grade Students at SMP Negeri 2 Palu” Skripsi, English Education Study Program, Language and Art Education Department, Teacher Training and Education Faculty, Tadulako University. Under the supervision of Konder Manurung.
The objective of this research is to find out whether or not the implementation of Short Dialogue Memorization Technique can improve students speaking skill on fluency and comprehensibility. The researcher used quasi experimental design. It divided into two classes, experimental and control class. The population of this research was the eighth grade students at SMP Negeri 2 Palu. The sample was selected by using purposive sampling technique. The samples were students of class VIII A as the control class which consisted of 20 students and VIII C as the experimental class which consisted of 20 students. These classes were given a pretest and a posttest. The data were analyzed statistically by using t-test formula. The mean scores of experimental class on pretest and posttest were 43.33 and 66.66, while the mean score of control class on pretest and posttest were 44.16 and 52.50. By consulting the t-table value by applying the degree of freedom (df) (20+20-2=38) and 0.05 level of significance, it was found that the value t-table was 1.687 and the value of t-counted is 2.21. The result of data analysis shows that the hypothesis was accepted where the t-counted value was higher than t-table value. It implies that the use of Short Dialogue Memorization Technique can improve speaking skill of the eighth grade students at SMP Negeri 2 Palu.
