IMPROVING WRITING SKILL OF GRADE EIGHT STUDENTS OF SMP NEGERI 1 PALASA THROUGH OUTLINING

This research aims at proving that the use of outlining can improve writing skill of grade eight students of SMP Negeri 1 Palasa. The research applied pre experimental design. The population was 118 students of grade eight. The samples were 23 students selected by employing cluster random sampling technique. Paper and pencil method were used when collecting the data with a test as the instrument. The test was administered twice namely pre-test and post-test. The data were analyzed statistically using .05 level of significance and 22 degree of freedom. Based on the data analysis, the researcher found that the students’ mean score of post-test was 80.98 greater than the pre-test mean score, 56.52. Compared with the two tests of scale describes that t-counted value = 7.66> t-table value = 1.717. Therefore, Ha was accepted and Ho was rejected. It can be concluded that the use of outlining can improve the students’ writing skill of grade eight of SMP Negeri 1 Palasa.
