This research aims to increase the vocabulary of grade VIII students at SMP Negeri 4 Palu by implementing STAD (Student Team Achievement Division) method. This research used quantitative method with a quasi-experimental research design. The population of this research was the eighth grade students at SMP Negeri 4 Palu in the academic year 2023/2024 with a total of 343 students. The researcher used simple random sampling technique in selecting the samples. The samples were class VIII Kihajar Dewantara as an experimental class which consisted of 29 students and class VIII Diponegoro as a control class which consisted of 31 students. The instrument of the data collection was a multiple choice test divided into pretest and posttest. The data were analyzed statistically to determine if there was a significant difference in the students' vocabulary achievement before and after the treatment. The results of the data analysis show that the mean score of the experimental class improved significantly from 50.51 to 81.20. Meanwhile, the control class's mean score was from 53.70 to 56.45. After analyzing the data, the researcher found that the value of tcounted was 7.71. By applying degree of freedom (df) 58 (29 + 31 – 2) and 0.05 level of significance, the researcher found the value of ttable was 1.672, indicating that the value of tcounted was higher than the value of ttable. It means that the research hypothesis (H1) was accepted. Therefore, the researcher concludes that the implementation of STAD (Student Team Achievement Division) method can increase vocabulary of grade VIII students at SMP Negeri 4 Palu.
