The Banggai Basin is one of the hydrocarbon basins that have been producing in Indonesia. The geochemical characteristics of the source rock are the primary source of hydrocarbon production from rock formations in this area have been carried out by many experts (Hasanusi et al., 2004; Kurniawan et al., 2015; Satyana 2016), however, the broad basin area still needs to carry out the characteristics of the source rock. The purpose of this research is to analyze the type of lithology and depositional environment, to analyze the lithostratigraphic conditions, the organic material content of the source rock, to analyze the organic material type and the maturity level of the source rock. The data used in this research were data of drilling from one drill hole in the form of well log, side wall core, geochemical analysis data from Rock-Eval pyrolysis, and Leco carbon analysis, as well as organic petrographic data from visual kerogen observations and vitrinite reflectance (Ro). The analytical method used was quantitative in the form of depth correction of log data to core data as well as simple statistical studies in the form of cross plots on each geochemical parameter, and qualitative methods in the form of correlation to see the relationship between each of the geochemical characteristics of the source rock. The results of this research show that the research area is composed of sandstone, claystone, siltstone, and limestone from the Formation of Tomoori, Matindok, Minahaki, and Sulawesi Group with a depositional environment in the form of non-reef carbonate and siliciclastic exposure. The source rock at the research location has a TOC ranging from 0.34-5.19 wt%, from the type of kerogen III which comes from higher plants (tree), has a Tmax value ranging from 412 °C-439 °C, Ro value ranges from 0.41-0.45% with PI values ranging from 0.03-0.034 mg HC/g TOC. The quantity of source rock at the research location ranges from negligible source rock capacity to poor-excellent capacity which has the potential to produce gas and sufficient maturity level (immature-peak mature).
