Salah satu aspek penting yang perlu diperhatikan dalam eksplorasi hidrokarbon adalah
karakteristik geokimia batuan induk. Cekungan Kutai telah terbukti menghasilkan hidrokarbon.
Penelitian bertujuan untuk menentukan kekayaan material organik (TOC), tipe material organik yang
terkandung dalam batuan induk dan tingkat kematangan (maturasi) material organik batuan induk
lapangan “WL”. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode Total Organic Carbon (TOC), Rock-Eval
Pyrolysis, dan Vitrinite Reflectance (Ro). Hasil analisis Lapangan “WL”. Hasil penelitian batuan
induk diperoleh, nilai TOC berkisar antara 0.06-34.56 wt% menunjukkan kategori kekayaan material
organik rendah sampai tinggi, tipe kerogen berkisar dari tipe II dan III (menghasilkan minyak dan
gas), nilai Tmax berkisar antara 380°-459°C, nilai Ro berkisar antara 0.44%-0.85% yang
menunjukkan tingkat kematangan immature-.mature.

ABSTRACT
One important aspect to note in hydrocarbon exploration is the geochemical characteristics
of the source rock. The Kutai Basin is pproven to produce hydrocarbons. The study aims to determine
the richness of organic material (TOC), the type of organic material contained in the source rock and
the level of maturity (maturation) of organic material of the field source rock "WL". This study used
Total Organic Carbon (TOC), Rock-Eval Pyrolysis, and Vitrinite Reflectance (Ro) methods. Results of
Field analysis "WL". The results of the source rock research were obtained, the TOC value ranged
from 0.06-34.56 wt% indicating the category of low to high organic material wealth, kerogen types
ranged from type II and III (producing oil and gas), Tmax values range from 380°-459°C, Ro value
ranges from 0.44%-0.85% which indicates the degree of immature-mature.
