SMA Negeri 5 Palu through Monologue Technique" Skripsi, English
Education Study Program, Language and Arts Department, Faculty of Teacher
Training and Education, Tadulako University, under the supervision of Abd.
Kamaruddin, Desrin Lebagi, and Mawardin.
This research aims at determining whether the monologue technique can
effectively be applied to develop speaking skill of grade x students at SMA
Negeri 5 Palu or not. The researcher employed a quasi-experimental design, with
the sample chosen through purposive sampling. Data collection was conducted
using pretest and posttest to measure the students' speaking skill and their progress
after the treatment. Statistical analysis using SPSS 23 revealed that the
experimental class showed a significant improvement in the mean score from the
pretest score was 46.46 to the posttest score 66.06. In contrast, the control class
showed only a modest increase in the mean score were the pretest mean score was
48.17 and the posttest mean score was 50.97.The independent sample T-test
showed significant improvement, with a significance level of 0.000, which is
lower than the chosen alpha level of 0.050. This indicates that the null hypothesis
was rejected, and the alternative hypothesis was accepted, demonstrating that the
monologue technique can effectively be applied to develop the speaking skill of
grade x students at SMA Negeri 5 Palu.
