Mengembangkan Keterampilan Berbicara Siswa Kelas IX SMPN 3 Banawa Melalui Diskusi Kelompok Kecil

The purpose of this study is to find out the use of Small Group Discussion can develop the speaking skill of the Grade IX Students of SMPN 3 Banawa. This research used quantitative research and applied quasi experimental research as the
research design. The population of this research is the ninth grades students of SMPN 3 Banawa which consist of 4 parallel classes, IX A, IX B, IX C, IX D. The sample was chosen using cluster random sampling technique to select an experimental and control class. The samples were class IX A the experimental class, and class IX B the control class for the researcher. The researcher analyzed the data statistically in order to find out the significant difference between two classes on posttest after the treatment using Small Group Discussion technique given to the experimental class. It was found that the mean scores of both the experimental and control classes on the posttest are respectively 71.15 and 60.68. Furthermore, referring to the value of the t-counted with the value of t-table, since, degree of freedom (df) =Nx+Ny-2 =49 by applying 0.05 level of significant, Tcounted (3.70462) was greater that Ttable (2.01174). Therefore, the hypothesis of this research was accepted. In conclusion, the application of Small Group Discussion technique can be used to develop speaking skill of the grade XI students at SMPN 3 Banawa.
