MENINGKATKAN KETERAMPILAN BERBICARA SISWA KELAS VIII DI SMP NEGERI 3 PALU MELALUI TEKNIK BERPASANGAN

The objective of this research is to find out the significant differences in speaking skill by using Pair Work Technique of the eight-grade students of SMP Negeri 3 Palu. The researcher applied quasi experimental research by involving an experimental group and a control group. The population of the research was the eight-grade students of SMP Negeri 3 Palu. The sample was taken by applying purposive sampling technique. The sample was 18 students of class VIII C as the experimental group and 20 students of class VIII A as the control group. So, the total number of samples is 38 students. The experimental group was given treatment by applying Pair Work Technique in teaching speaking skill, whereas the control group, the researchers used conventional methods. The Instrument of data collection was test (pretest and posttest). Based on the data analysis, it was found that there are significant differences between the score of the experimental and the control groups. It indicated by the t-counted (2.346) was higher than the t-table (1.676) by applying 0.05 level of significance and the degree of freedom (36). Therefore, there was a significant difference in speaking skill between students who were taught without and with Pair Work Technique.
