Meningkatkan Keterampilan Mendengarkan Siswa Kelas Sembilan SMP Negeri 19 Palu Melalui Penggunaan VOA Learning English

Ilmawati (A121 20 220). This skripsi is entitled “Enhancing Listening Skill of the
Ninth Grade Students of SMP Negeri 19 Palu through the Use of VOA Learning
English.” English Education Study Program, Department of Language and Art
Education, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Tadulako University,
under the Supervision of Mukrim and Zarkiani Hasyim.
The objective of this research was to prove that the use VOA Learning English
can enhance listening skill of the ninth grade students of SMP Negeri 19 Palu.
This research used a quasi-experimental research design. The sample of the
research was 28 students of class C as the experimental class and 24 students of
class A as the control class. The instruments used in this research were listening
test that was conducted in pre-test and post-test. The result of the data analysis
showed that there is a significant difference between the result of pre-test and
post-test. The mean score of the pre-test of experimental class was 45.18, while
the pre-test result of control class was 48.13. After giving treatment, the mean
score of post-test of the experimental class was 72.68 and the control class was
67.09. By applying 0.05 level of significance, the researcher found that the value
of the t-counted (3.40) was higher than t-table (1.67). Based on this result
computation, it can be concluded that the use of VOA Learning English can
enhance the ninth grade students of SMP Negeri 19 Palu in their listening skill.
