Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, under the Supervisor of Dr.Mawardin.M.Said. M.Hum.
This Research aimed at Improving Reading Comprehension of Grade VIII Students atSmpn 1 Sindue Tombusabora through Short Story. The researcher used quasi experimentaldesign.Itssampleswere30studentsofclassVIIIBasthecontrolclass,and30studentsofclassVIIIAastheexperimentalclass.Theresearcherappliedtotalsamplingtechnique.Incollectingthedata,theresearchergavetwokindsoftest,they werepretestandposttesttoexpereimentalclassandcontrolclass.Thedatawereanalyzedstatisticallyinordertofindoutthesignificancedifference of students achievement before and after treatments. The mean score of pretest onexperimentalclassis46.53andmeanscorepretestcontrolclass63.3.themeansscoreposttestof experimental class is 82.4 and posttest of control class is 71.6. by using the 0.05 levelsignificance and 60 as the deegre pf freedom (df)= 60-2= 58, the researcher found that thevalue of t-table is 1.67, which shows that the value of t-counted 6,03 is higher than the valueoft-table1.67.itmeans thatthehypothesis is accepted.
