Improving Reading Comprehension of Grade VIII Students of SMPN 2 Balaesang Through Team Pair Solo Strategy, Skripsi, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Department of Language and Art Education, English Language Education Study Program, under the supervision of Abd. Kamaruddin.
This study aims to find out whether or not the implementation of Team Pair Solo Strategy can improve reading comprehension of grade eight students of SMPN 2 Balaesang. The research applied quasi-experimental design. The samples were students of class VIII C consisting of 24 students as the experimental class and class VIII A was 24 students as the control class. They were selected by cluster random sampling. To collect the data, test which was divided into pretest and posttest, was used as the research instrument. The mean score of pretest for the experimental class and control class were 50.51 and 53.29 respectively. The mean score of posttest for the experimental class and control class were 65.3 and 60.69. By applying the degree of freedom (df) 46 and 0.05 of the significance level, this research indicates that the t-counted value (2.614) is higher than the t-table (1.679). In other words, the hypothesis of this research is accepted. Therefore, the study revealed that the students’ reading comprehension can be improved by Team Pair Solo Strategy.
