Ni Komang Wadiani (A 121 18 186). Improving Reading Comprehension of the
Eleventh Grade Students of SMA Negeri 1 Kasimbar Through Summarizing
Strategy. Skripsi, English Education Study Program, Language and Art Education
Department, Teacher Training and Education Faculty, under the guidance of
Aminah and Anjar Kusuma Dewi.
The objective of this research is to find out whether or not the use of summarizing
strategy can improve students reading comprehension of the eleventh grade
students of SMA Negeri 1 Kasimbar. The researchers used a quasi-experimental
research design. The population of this research was the eleventh-grade students
of SMA Negeri 1 Kasimbar, and the samples were XI IPS 1 (the experimental
group) and XI IPS 2 (the control group). The sample was selected using the
purposive sampling technique. The research data was collected through two
comprehension tests, namely the pre-test and post-test. This data were analyzed
statistically. According to the data of the pre-test and post-test, the difference
between the pre-test and post-test increase is 25 points. The design shows that
after receiving the summary strategy, students experience an increase in reading
comprehension. Thus, the research hypothesis is accepted and the use of
summarizing strategies can improve students' reading comprehension.
