The purpose of this study was to determine whether or not the Cooperative Integrated Reading Composition (CIRC) method can develop the reading
comprehension of ninth grade students at SMP Negeri 2 Palu. This study applied pre-experimental research design. The population in this study were ninth grade
students at SMP Negeri 2 Palu. The sample of this study was grade IX C which amounted to 31 students. The techniques used for data collection were pre-test and
post-test. The data were analyzed statistically. The results of data analysis showed that the t-count value (5.26) was higher than the t-table value (1.697) by applying a significance level of 0.05 with a degree of freedom (df)31(n-1). This proves that the hypothesis is accepted. In other words, the use of Cooperative Integrated Reading Composition method can develop the reading comprehension skills of IX C students at SMP Negeri 2 Palu.
