ABSTRACT

Background: Filariasis is a chronic infectious infection caused by filarial worms and affects the lymph nodes transmitted by mosquitoes.The disease is endemic in 72 countries, including Indonesia, with 236 affected districts/cities. In Sigi District, West Dolo Sub-district recorded 11 cases at Kaleke Health Center. Cummunity knowledge and behavior play a role in transmission, so education through media such as posters is very important.
Objective: The general objective of this study was to identify the effect of education through poster media on the level of knowledge & behavior of filariasis prevention in children of SMP Negeri 4 Sigi, Sigi Regency, Central Sulawesi.
Methods: This study used quasi-experimental method with pre-post control design and involved 172 sampels. There were two groups, namely treatment and control, with sampels selected by purposive sampling. Data analysis was performed using the Wilcoxon test on SPSS .
Result: Bivariate statistical test with Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test in the treatment group showed that knowledge and behavior indicators had Asymp. Sig.(p-value = 0.000) is smaller than ? = 0.05 (p<0.05), so the hypothesis is accepted.
Conclusion: education through poster media significantly affects knowledge and behavior of filariasis prevention in student of SMP Negeri 4 Sigi (p-value = 0.000).
