PENGGUNAAN FREE WRITING TECHNIQUE UNTUK MENINGKATKAN KEMAMPUAN MENULIS SISWA KELAS DELAPAN DI SMP NEGERI 1 DAMPAL SELATAN

The objective of this research was to prove whether the use of Free Writing
Technique could improve the eighth grade students’ skill in writing descriptive
text or not. The researcher used quasi-experimental research design. The
population of this research was the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 1
Dampal Selatan that consisted of 3 classes. The sample was chosen by applying
random sampling technique to select an experimental group and a control group.
The sample were class VIII B as the experimental group and class VIII C as the
control group. The result of the pretest showed that the mean score of the
experimental group on pretest was 47.91, while the control group was 48.75. The
mean score of the experimental group on posttest was significantly improved from
47.91 to 76.25. Meanwhile, the control group’s mean score on posttest was
improved from 48.75 to 57.08. Therefore, the hypothesis of this research was
accepted. In conclusion, the eighth grade students’ skill in writing descriptive text
at SMP Negeri 1 Dampal Selatan can be improved through Free Writing
Technique.
