Abstract

ABSTRACT

The objective of this research is to find out whether the use of Group Investigation (GI) of the tenth-grade students of SMA Negeri 5 Model Palu can develop the students' writing skills in descriptive text. The researchers applied a quasi-experimental design which involved experimental class and control class. The population of this research was the tenth-grade students at SMA Negeri 5 Model Palu. The researchers selected the sample by using a purposive sampling technique. The sample of this research was the students of X MIPA 2 as a experimental class wihich consist of 29 students and X MIPA 6 as a control class which consist of 25 students. The result of the data analysis showed that there was a significant difference between the pre-test and post-test. The mean score of the experimental class significantly improved from 49.13 to 84.91, while the mean score of the control class from 44.25 to 70.25. The researchers found a significant difference between the results of the experimental class. It was proved by applying the testing hypothesis. The researchers found that the t-counted was higher than the t-table (4.85>2.016). It means that the hypothesis was accepted. In conclusion, the use of Group Investigation method can develop the writing skills in descriptive text of the tenth-grade students of SMA Negeri 5 Model Palu.
